The Department of Geology and Environmental Science, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, hosted an impactful volunteer day at the Frick Environmental Center in Frick Park. Participants worked alongside Parks Conservancy staff to manage invasive plants and maintain ecological restoration sites, which directly contribute to the care and stewardship of Pittsburgh’s treasured park system.
The program was spearheaded by Dr. Eitan Shelef, an associate professor in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science, the Geology and Environmental Science DEI Committee, and Brandon McCracken, the Ecological Restoration Manager for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, who helped to coordinate efforts.
The department says they are looking forward to next year to continuing the support of our mission of learning, service, and sustainability.
