The inaugural Edith Balas Memorial Lecture is happening this Wednesday, November 5. The Department of Jewish Studies is hosting the lecture, which will feature Dr. Kerry Wallach, a professor and chair of German Studies and an affiliate of the Jewish Studies Program at Gettysburg College.
Wallach’s work traces the life and work of artist Ragel Szalit, a well-known Jewish artist in Weimar Germany. Szalit was murdered in the holocaust and was largely forgotten, but thanks to Wallach’s research, the life, legacy, and artwork of Szalit have been uncovered.
The lecture will take place in room 602 in the Cathedral of Learning, starting at 5:15 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
