Dr. Ron Idoko is the Founding Director of the Racial Equity Consciousness Institute (RECI), Associate Director of the Center on Race and Social Problems, Director of the Office of Social Innovation at the Frederick Honors College, and a Research Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh.
His path began in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. A Bronx native and one of seven children, Ron came to Pitt on an academic scholarship, walked on to the football team, and ultimately earned a football scholarship. He graduated from the Dietrich School in 2005, later earning a master's degree from GSPIA and a doctorate in education, and he remains affiliated with the Department of Africana Studies in Dietrich.
Ron's work centers on building our capacities to think and act systemically about racial equity. Through RECI and ongoing, community-engaged initiatives such as Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh and Pitt's National Day of Racial Healing program, he brings the University and greater Pittsburgh together in dialogue and action.
He lives in Pittsburgh with his wife and life partner, Rachel, and their daughter, Arinzé Eve.
