Publisher’s Weekly just announced Sophia Choukas-Bradley’s upcoming book. Choukas-Bradley is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the Dietrich School. Her debut publication, Beyond the Looking Glass, encompasses Choukas-Bradley’s research on the effects of social media on body image and mental health of adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 10-29. The book is divided into two parts: Part One diagnoses the problem, examining what’s happening right now with social media and how we arrived at this point; and Part Two focuses on solutions. Interwoven within the research are stories from interviews she conducted with young girls as well as some memoir-style storytelling from her youth. The book, which was picked up by Flatiron, a subset of Macmillan in the US and by Penguin Life in the UK, is set to be published in 2027.
Along with her book being published, Choukas-Bradley was just named a Pittsburgh Magazine “40 under 40.” A celebration of the awardees will take place in November at Rivers Casino Event Center.
