The Department of Jewish Studies in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, in partnership with the Fine Foundation and the Rauh Jewish Archives at the Heinz History Center, created the Fine Fellowship in Fall 2023. The Fellowship will help bring scholars to Pittsburgh to work with archival collections related to the October 27 synagogue attack and offer Pittsburghers the opportunity to communicate with researchers as they develop their work into antisemitism and extreme hatred and the impacts it’s had.
From the Jewish Studies Department
“A committee consisting of representatives from the University of Pittsburgh and the Rauh Jewish Archives will consider the applications and offer the award to the scholar whose work promises to make excellent use of local materials, to benefit from conversations with Pittsburghers, and to prove instructive to Pittsburghers seeking more understanding about the dangers of hateful ideologies that undergirded the 10/27 attack.
Over the summer, the selected fellow will travel to the Pittsburgh area to work with local, archival materials. The following fall semester, the scholar would return to the city of Pittsburgh to present their work to the public and engage in conversation about the themes and direction of their research.”
