Harvey S. Cohen Named 2022 Dietrich School Distinguished Alumni Awardee

Harvey S. Cohen (A&S ’68) has been named the 2022 recipient of the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award. This award recognizes Harvey’s professional accomplishments and his dedication to the University of Pittsburgh and Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences.

With a career that spanned 4 decades, Harvey is known for his expertise in forensic accounting in the tax arena. His work with plaintiff law firms dealt with accounting ethics and malpractice cases. His clients were located throughout the United States and often held the highest positions in their public companies. Harvey’s clients also included a member of the US House of Representatives who became Speaker of the House and a candidate for President of the United States.

In addition to his clients, universities and societies also sought out Harvey’s expertise. Harvey was a guest lecturer at the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Architecture, University of Georgia School of Law, University of Georgia Beta Alpha Psi Honorary Accounting Society, and the Georgia Society of CPA’s.

In addition to his career accomplishments, Harvey has been an active volunteer and has taken on leadership roles in a number of community organizations including Rotary and the Mountain Shelter Humane Society.

Finally, Harvey is deeply committed to the Department of Economics in the Dietrich School. He has invested in undergraduate educational opportunities through the Cohen fellowship program. His generosity also supports faculty and student research in behavioral and experimental economics. Serving as a mentor of the Cohen Fellows, Harvey makes regular trips to the department and shares his experiences with Pitt students.

For these reasons and more, we are honored to present Harvey S. Cohen with the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award.
