Women's History Month in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Celebrates: Delanie Jenkins

Delanie Jenkins is an Associate Professor in the Department of Studio Arts in the Dietrich School and a member of the Pittsburgh Water Collaboratory. She earned her BA in Art and Performance from the University of Texas at Dallas and her MFA in Sculpture from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Jenkins is a visual artist who is often inspired by place and materials and whose work is observational and process-based. She works in sculpture, intaglio and digital prints, time-based image projections, and drawing.

She has participated in dozens of fellowships, residencies, and special projects including her 2022 artist residency in the Arctic Circle. She was to be one of 29 participants in the Arctic Circle Art & Science Expeditionary Residency in the Svalbard Archipelago. The trip was delayed, but Jenkins decided to venture on her own. While there she focused her explorations on the glaciers, studying the water, ice, and stones for a better understanding of geologic time and change. She documented her thoughts in a series of photographs on her website. In 2024 she will be doing a follow-up exploration via an informal residency invitation to the Westfjords of Iceland in the Summer of 2024 and a Humanities Center Fellowship from September of 2024 -April 2025.

In 2009, Jenkins was a founding faculty member of the Wyoming Field Study, a 17-day summer field study for students to focus on creative work in collaboration with students studying paleontology, ecology, and archaeology.

Jenkins has participated in over 30 exhibitions since 1992. One of her earlier exhibits, Root Bound debuted in 1998 at the Mattress Factory here in Pittsburgh. Delanie is a part of the upcoming exhibit, Neither Here nor There, a University of Pittsburgh Studio Art Department faculty collaboration.
