New Studio Arts Exhibit, Neither Here Nor There, Opening on March 21

The Dietrich School's Department of Studio Arts has a new exhibit opening on March 21 and running through April 20. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, March 21 from 6 – 8 p.m.

The Exhibition, Neither Here nor Thereis an exhibition of the Studio Arts Faculty curated by Ellen Larson.

From Studio Arts:

Neither Here nor There features recent work by seventeen faculty members of the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Studio Arts. While these artists all engage in disparate forms of multimedia creation such as video, photography, printmaking, painting, installation, and sculpture, their unique practices underscore shared investments in locating the fluid nature of things in between. Artists grapple with issues of movement and migration, displacement, the politics of remembering, and identity as neither here nor there, not one thing nor another, but simultaneously occurring at the same time.

Selected works are loosely grouped based on asymmetrical relationships to the environment, systems of belonging, memory, ritual, and the body. Emphasizing frameworks aimed at dismantling normative systems, Neither Here nor There sees time as malleable—it thickens, pools, and elongates, ultimately highlighting ways of seeing as powerful acts of protest and resistance.
