David Birnbaum, professor and chair of the Dietrich School's Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, was awarded the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences' "Marin Drinov" medal for distinguished contributions to Bulgarian studies. It is the highest honor that the Academy bestows on foreign scholars of Bulgarian studies.
The medal was presented by Stefan Vodenicharov, the President of the Academy, in a ceremony on June 8.
