The Hillman Library, and Aaron Henderson with the Department of Studio Arts is hosting an artist talk this Wednesday, September 2 at 12:30pm. It will be a celebration of the art installation "I am made to leave I am made to return" with artists Susy Bielak, Fred Schmalz.

"This project grew out of digs in the ULS Nationality Rooms archives and has become a larger-than-life installation combining pattern, poetry, collage, actual boxes from the archives, and more."
In "I am made to leave I am made to return" artists Susy Bielak, Fred Schmalz and Aaron Henderson draw upon the University of Pittsburgh's Nationality Rooms and the University Library System (ULS) Archives and Special Collections to offer dynamic and speculative reflections on nationality, heritage, migration, and belonging. The installation considers how archives preserve cultural memory while remaining open to interpretation. Together, these works invite us to reimagine what a library can be in the twenty-first century.
