The University of Pittsburgh’s philosophy program ranked No. 5 in the world in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject, extending a streak of top-five finishes stretching back 10 years.
The ranking reflects the combined strength of three units in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Adam Leibovich, Bettye J. and Ralph E. Bailey Dean of the Dietrich School and College of General Studies, credited the breadth and depth of Pitt’s philosophy faculty for sustaining the program’s international standing.
“The University of Pittsburgh’s continued placement among the top five philosophy programs worldwide speaks above all to the extraordinary teaching and scholarship of the Department of Philosophy,” Leibovich said. “This strength is amplified by a broader, collaborative intellectual community that includes the Center for Philosophy of Science and its global network of fellows, and the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, whose distinguished faculty play a vital role in shaping Pitt’s philosophical profile.”
