Graduation

A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree requires a minimum of 120 credits (approximately 40 courses), with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00. In addition, you need a 2.00 in both your major and in your minor (if you have a minor) in order to graduate. Keep in mind that some courses may be used to fulfill more than one requirement. An Arts and Sciences academic or departmental advisor will help you plan coursework so that you can complete your requirements on time.

Within the 120 credits, the foundational skills, general education, and major requirements (see Arts and Sciences degree requirements section) must be fulfilled. At least half of the major and official minor credits and the final 30 credits toward your Arts and Sciences degree must be earned while enrolled as an Arts and Sciences student and not at another school.

Application

When it comes time for you to graduate, you need to file a graduation application in the Arts and Sciences Office of Undergraduate Studies at 140 Thackeray Hall, one term before the term in which you plan to graduate. When Student Records receives your application, they will review your file before you begin your final term. You’ll be notified in writing and via e-mail if there are any problems. That way, you may promptly correct the issue during the add/drop period of your final term.

The caps, gowns, and hoods for use in commencement ceremonies may be purchased through the University Book Center or at Graduation Central. We expect candidates for graduation to appear in person at the commencement ceremonoy.
