Be immersed in the language and culture of the Middle East from the time of the Prophet Mohammed (circa 600 C.E.) through the first Gulf War in 1991. Learn how the culture has adapted and changed over time and how Arabic remains in its purest form in the Qur'an, the religious text guiding the Islamic world.

2. Computing in Biology and Medicine

What’s the wave of the future now hitting the shores of scientific research? According to experts, it’s bioinformatics, the merging of biological sciences, information and computer science technology, and mathematics to create exciting new ways of understanding cellular life.  Begin learning about this field through your own study of biology and computer science and an exposure to the work and workers in this challenging field. 3. Contemporary Visual Culture

Immerse yourself in contemporary art culture in the 1960s, when pop art and Andy Warhol were hot. Learn about art's wild ride as it diversified through the 1980s and 1990s with the impact of global art and digital media.

4. Europe and the Modern World

What is a nation? And how have individuals’ answers to this question created the Western world we live? Trace the political life of Europe and how it has affected individuals' senses of identity and place in the growing European Union and in the world.

Students enrolled in this Learning Community will visit New York City, tour the United Nations, visit with the Delegation of the European Union to the UN, and learn about study abroad and funding opportunities at the Institute of International Education.
