When Should I See an Assistant or Associate Dean?

Undergraduate deans in the School of Arts and Sciences meet with students for academic related issues, assisting students in resolving their educational concerns. The receptionist in 140 Thackeray Hall schedules student appointments for the assistant deans, generally for the following reasons:

  • Exemptions from General Education courses, or course substitutions
  • Student appeals for skills extension, course/credit overload, late satisfactory/audit, late withdrawal, late add/drop, late registration
  • Student resignation or withdrawal from term or college
  • Assistance because of a very serious issue impeding a student’s academic progress, such as a death in the family or an emergency.
  • Appeal of suspension or dismissal from the University
  • Appeal for reinstatement to the University
  • Issues involving a low GPA which may impede a student’s ability to participate in Study Abroad, internships, and/or receiving financial aid
  • Grade disputes and issues with faculty
