Right Start Courses

The Right Start to College Courses!

Get your college career off to the Right Start with these courses that provide the necessary tools to succeed at Pitt. These classes meet one hour per week.

  • ARTSC 0111: Right Start 1 (one credit, fall term) teaches critical habits such as studying for college-level courses, taking effective notes, managing test anxiety, and working confidently with your instructors.
  • ARTSC 0112: Right Start 2 (one credit, spring term) focuses on long-range career goals and explores options for majors, minors, and certificates, and mapping your career direction.
  • ARTSC 0114: Right Start 3 - Humanities (one credit, spring term) demonstrates and explains the career path for undergraduate students majoring in the humanities (history of art and architecture, studio arts, theatre arts, English writing and literature, philosophy, communication and rhetoric, languages, and classics). This course covers such topics as self-assessment surveys, information on majors, resume building, interviewing, internships and experiential learning, graduate school options, the job market, and making effective use of the Career Development Office. Students will research three specific careers and secure an internship for the following term.
  • ARTSC 0115: Right Start 4 - Social Sciences (one credit, spring term) demonstrates and explains the career path for undergraduate students majoring in the social sciences (anthropology, economics, history, political science, and sociology). This course covers such topics as self-assessment surveys, information on majors, resume building, interviewing, internships and experiential learning, graduate school options, the job market, and making effective use of the Career Development Office. Students will research three specific careers and secure an internship for the following term.
