Research Funding

Although there are many places on the Internet where you learn about funding for your education, sometimes you have to work the old-fashioned way and take a trip to the local library.

The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid provides extensive resources to help you in your search. Hillman Library also has information on funding sources.

Another good place to learn about alternate funding sources is just a short drive or bus ride away at the Downtown and Business Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, located at 612 Smithfield Street. There, the library has amassed an excellent collection of CD-ROMs, books, and journals about funding availability.

Small Grants

The Office of Experiential Learning (OEL) offers supplemental “Small Grants for Undergraduate Research or Teaching Experiences” to Arts and Sciences undergraduates. Grants of up to $500 are available for research or project supplies, and for travel to present a paper at a conference, perform, or exhibit creative work or research projects. Grants of up to $500 are also available to undergraduates for teaching and creative projects that support the teaching of current and scheduled classes.

Summer Undergraduate Research Awards

Students can also apply for summer undergraduate research awards of up to $3, 000 to do research projects of their own design during the summer time.
