Arts and Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Awards
Arts and Sciences is looking for applicants to join a diverse community of undergraduate scholars and researchers from the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Awardees receive $3,500 to support a summer term of independent research and scholarship. MORE

Bioengineering and Bioinformatics Summer Institute (BBSI) Applicants from students in the life sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computer science majors are welcome. Eleven undergraduate students entering their junior or senior years will be admitted.
Brackenridge Summer Fellowship This program supports undergraduates conducting independent research projects and a roundtable discussion of progress in a weekly seminar in the summer months.
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship (HHMI) This grant was awarded to the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh to facilitate the development of a strong, diverse community of undergraduate biologists.
Musculoskeletal Research Center (MSRC) This program exposes students to orthopedic research so that they may augment their class work with practical, hands-on experience.
National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (SFI UREKA) UREKA is a science foundation, Ireland funded program, which promotes active research participation from science, engineering, and medical students. PITT-SPURG This program is designed to provide physical science majors with biomedical research training in a contemporary molecular pharmacology department.
Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative (PTEI) (PDF)
Pitt EXCEL Program's Summer Research Internship (SRI) This program is geared toward students traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering majors in their junior or senior years.
Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) This program provides an opportunity for students to perform a state-of-the-art research project in one of the many areas of chemistry.
Summer Undergraduate Program (SURP) (PDF) This program is through the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program in the School of Medicine. You must be a rising sophomore or rising junior.
The Summer Premedical Academic Enrichment Program (SPAEP)(PDF)
This program provides Level and I and II programs. Level I is for high school graduates and college freshman and Level II is for college juniors and seniors.
Undergraduate and Summer Intern Program (HERL) Students must have completed their freshman year. This program makes engineering and clinical opportunities available in many research areas related to the development and evaluation of new technologies.
