Advising Q and A: Recent Answers

Should you take web-based classes? Does this have any effect on your grade or transcript?
Answer:
Grades for web-based courses are no different than for other courses. However, the School of Arts and Sciences limits students to a maximum of two self-paced and/or web-based courses taken at Pitt in the 120 credits required for their degree. When taking a web-based or self-paced course it is very important that you pace yourself and do a good job of managing the time that you put into the course. That is something very important to keep in mind when considering such a course.

Internal Transfer
Hello, My name is Cheryl Boyd-Abner and I am a psychology major here at Pitt-Bradford.  I am interested in relocating to the Oakland campus in the fall of 2010. (I also have a twin sister who is inquiring the same information not to get us confused).I would like to be able to have someone review my courses to-date, and to advise me on courses that I should take this spring prior to coming to Oakland. Thank you and sincerely,Cheryl Boyd-Abner
Answer:
Hello, Cheryl, Thank you for your question.  Please note that this reply applies to the question submitted by both you and your sister.  To begin, please consult our Web page that outlines transfer requirements from a regional campus: http://www.as.pitt.edu/undergraduate/audience/transfers/admissions.html#internal Once your transfer is approved you will have a one-on-one appointment with an Arts & Sciences advisor who will explain the progress you've made toward the Arts & Sciences General Education Requirements as well an Arts & Sciences major.  For more information about majors, minors, and certificates, please consult this Web site: http://www.as.pitt.edu/undergraduate/advising/majors-minors.html You should speak with your current advisor at Pitt Bradford about relevant classes for the spring semester.  Thanks for your interest and good luck.

advising question
Hello! I am a psychology major at Harrisburg Area Community College and I have just recently met with my advisor and she told me to contact someone at Pitt about what classes are recommended to transfer.  I graduate in the Spring and would like to transfer to Pitt next fall.  Spring registration is coming up next month and I wanted to find out what electives and core C sciences Pitt prefers.  I'm not sure if you need to see a list of classes I have already had, if so, I can send that to you. Thanks so much for your help, Cassie Crum
Answer:
Hi Cassie, We would need to see all the classes that you are registered for and what you have taken in order to answer this properly.  Then it would be an informal answer until you actually apply.  When you apply, a course evaluation will be done at that time and you will know for certain what you need.  Right now, we are in the first weeks of our registration period so all advisors have been very busy.  I apologize for the delay.  When you send the information, if you include course descriptions, that would be helpful.

How do I get a hold removed?

Answer:

A “hold” means that you need to take care of some unfinished business. A service indicator symbol in PeopleSoft will appear on your record if you have a hold. Click on the symbol to find out which office put the hold on your account. You will need to call or visit the office that placed the hold on your account to handle the matter.
