How do I register for a class?
See your academic advisor. If you are a guest student, visit 201 Thackeray Hall.

How do I register for 18 or more credits?
Visit the Dean's Office in 140 Thackeray Hall for a dean's signature.

How do I get into a closed class?
Obtain a closed class permission form from the instructor or department and obtain the instructor's approval and signature. Fill out an add/drop form and return both forms to the Registrar's Office in G-3 Thackeray Hall.

How do I add and/or drop a course?
Obtain an enrollment form from the Advising Center in 201 Thackeray Hall, fill it out and return it to the Registrar's Office in G-1 Thackeray Hall.

How do I withdraw from a course?
Freshman should see their advisor first. All other students should see their advisor before withdrawing from a skills course. (Check the Academic Calendar to see the deadlines for withdrawing from courses.)

How do I declare a major or multiple majors, or change my major?
Speak with your academic advisor about declaring a major or majors. To change your major, visit Student Records in 140 Thackeray Hall. or the Advising Center in 201 Thackeray Hall.

How do I get a hold removed?
A "hold" means that you need to take care of some unfinished business. A service indicator (x) in PeopleSoft will appear on your record if you have a hold. Click on the x symbol to find out which office put the hold on your account. You will need to call or visit the office that placed the hold on your account to handle the matter.

How do I get off of probation?
Develop a plan with the assistance of an intervention specialist in the Academic Resource Center, G-1 Gardner Steel Conference Center.

How do I appeal my suspension or dismissal?
Make an appointment to speak with a dean, either in person or by phone, by calling 412-624-6480.

How do I apply for a student loan, financial aid or work-study?
Visit the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid in 120 Alumni Hall.

How can I get free tutoring?
Check out the Arts and Sciences Tutoring page for schedules and information. If you don't see your subject listed, call the Academic Resource Center at 412-648-7920.

How do I study abroad?
View the various types of study abroad opportunities.

How can I graduate in four years?
Read the "Rules to Follow".

How should I resolve a grade dispute?
First speak with the faculty member for that class. If that does not resolve the issue, speak with the chair of the department that offers the course. If that does not resolve the issue, visit 140 Thackeray Hall to discuss the issue with a dean.

How do I resolve an academic integrity violation?
Refer to the Arts and Sciences Academic Integrity Code to find out precisely how Arts and Sciences defines student misconduct and faculty misconduct. If the process outlined in the Academic Integrity Code has not resolved the situation, call 412-624-6480 and speak with the Arts and Sciences academic integrity officer.

How can I get an internship?
Internship information can be found in several locations around campus. Departments may post internship opportunities in their offices. Career Services maintains a database of paid and unpaid internships on FutureLinks. You can also visit the Office of Experiential Learning in B-4 Thaw Hall (412-624-6828) for other internship information and assistance.

How can I gain research experience?

How can I speak with a faculty member?
Find out the faculty member's office hours by contacting the department. Visit him or her during office hours.

How do I prepare for a pre-professional school?
Speak with your academic advisor and make it clear which pre-professional program you are preparing for.
