Selecting Classes

INTEREST: Choose courses that interest you.

MAJOR: If you have a major you want to explore, choose a course or two in that field.

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Choose several courses that will fulfill your General Education Requirements (PDF). The Choices page notes which requirements are satisfied by specific courses.

ELECTIVE: Don't hesitate to take an elective your first term. An elective is a course that does not satisfy a specific requirement, but the credits do count toward graduation. Such a course may spark a new interest and may help you down the road in choosing your major, a second major, or a minor.

HELPFUL TIPS

  • Consider a course in a subject you liked in high school OR explore a subject that you've never studied before.
  • Consider a course that will develop your competence or proficiency in a particular area, e.g. computer skills, foreign language, communication skills, etc.
