How to Use the Choices Form

The Choices form (next page) is intended to give you a place to start as you consider possible courses for your first term at the University of Pittsburgh. You are not limited to these courses.

  • Choices lists courses that are appropriate options for most freshmen.
  • Choices notes which General Education Requirement a course may satisfy.
  • These courses also may count towards majors, minors, related areas, or certificates.
  • It is strongly suggested that you choose courses from a number of different subject areas.

Your "List of 10" might look something like this:

  • Potential Major: 1-2 courses
  • General Education Requirements: 2-5 courses
  • FP 0001 Introduction to the Arts and Sciences: 1 course
  • Other Electives: 2-4 courses

REMEMBER: Your list of 10 classes will not be your final selection and is not an actual registration for classes. At your advising appointment during the PittStart session, this "list of 10" will act as a guide. Your advisor will help you select and register for four to six classes.
