Advisors
The School of Arts and Sciences uses a two-tiered advising system. Freshmen and sophomores who have not declared an Arts and Sciences major or been admitted to another undergraduate school at Pitt are advised and registered by full-time, professional advisors in the Arts and Sciences Advising Center. These advisors help students to discover and explore their academic options by:
- Clarifying personal and academic interests and career goals;
- Matching those interests and goals with an appropriate academic focus;
- Enrolling students in the appropriate courses to pursue those goals; and
- Assisting students in declaring an Arts and Sciences major or applying for admission to a program in another University of Pittsburgh academic unit—usually a professional school such as the College of Business Administration, the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, or the School of Social Work.
Once the students have declared an Arts and Sciences major, they are advised and registered by faculty and/or full-time, professional staff in the specific departments to which they have been admitted.
