Film by Senior John Tronsor Selected for International Screening Series
11/14/07
John Tronsor, studio arts and philosophy major, created a video for his directed study sculpture course this fall—and that video is moving out into the world. He won the top prize in a competition put together by the HAA club and his piece will be on view soon at Gallerie Chiz on Ellsworth Avenue in Shadyside.
Tronsor also submitted his film to Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati where it was selected for an international screening series entitled Art and Design on Film. With two others, Tronsor's film was selected for Resistance to Vision, currently on exhibition at Manifest Gallery, alongside Alison Chernick's documentary, Matthew Barney: No Restraint.
Untitled (2007)
Artist: John Tronsor;
Edited by: Jason Georgiades;
Running Time: 5 min
The film shows excerpted text from the works of philosophers Jacques Derrida and Ludwig Wittgenstein as they’re successively scrawled erased, and layered on a blackboard. In time, the text becomes a dissonance of linear forms rendered with varying quickness, legibility, and rhythm, foregrounding the viewer’s own struggle in the act of seeing, reading, and making sense of what is written.
