What is your current job title and nature of your employment?
Assistant Professor of music theory and composition at Wheaton College. I develop and teach courses in music theory, composition, electronic and computer music, interactive composition, and FYS, in addition to advising.
Madkour also serves as Director of Wheaton's electronic music studio and Co-director of the CI2 music composition competition for young composers.
What part of the country/world do you live?
Between Boston, Massachusetts and Cairo, Egypt
Are you currently working on any projects or conducting any research?
I am working on a book proposal on interactive composition and performance for live acoustic instruments and computers.
What are your recent publications?
The Puppetears-Interactive Composition: Hands-on or Hands-off, a composition and a paper presented at the NITLE 5th annual conference and festival of Modern Music 2006. The Puppetears is published on the NITLE CD series.
What personal hobbies/activities do you enjoy?
Performing oboe with Wheaton faculty ensemble and orchestra, programming, and soccer
Why did you decide to attend the University of Pittsburgh for your graduate work?
The Music Department of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh has outstanding professors in composition, musicology, and ethnomusicology. The composition department offers a wide variety of courses that guarantees the artistic growth of students. The friendly environment and professors' support extends beyond the graduate work.
