Before You Arrive: Pittsburgh Neighborhoods

Map of Pittsburgh Neighborhoods

Pittsburgh is one of the US's oldest cities (founded in 1758, but Europeans had settled in the area by the 1710s) and its layout and neighborhoods retain very distinctive characteristics. According to the poll we conducted in 2007, most graduate students lived in Squirrel Hill or Shadyside, but there are a number of other neighborhoods nearby where the rents can be lower and the living just as good. The most popular neighborhoods are listed below in order from most to least according to responses to the 2007 A&S GSO rent survey. Click on the links to bring up a page for the neighborhood that includes cost of living and descriptions.
