Externally Sponsored Research
The School of Arts and Sciences faculty members secure significant external funding support for their research, technology, and programmatic initiatives.
- In the past five years, efforts of our faculty have resulted in a 38.3 percent increase in externally sponsored research support, and external research sponsorship in fiscal year 2007 is anticipated to contribute $45.1 million (direct costs, fringe benefits, and indirect costs) to the Arts and Sciences budget.
- Arts and Sciences faculty, alumni, and students generate 36 percent of the patents issued to the University of Pittsburgh, which was the sixth most prolific college or university in the country in the number of start-up companies created in fiscal year 2004, according to the Association of University Technology Managers 2004 annual survey of licensing and commercialization activities.
