Arts and Sciences Council

The Arts and Sciences Council oversees the A&S Graduate Council and the A&S Undergraduate Council, elects the Faculty Grants Committee and other committees whose work pertains to the full faculty, and acts for the School of Arts and Sciences in intervals between full faculty meetings.

Arts and Sciences Planning and Budgeting Committee

The Arts and Sciences Planning and Budgeting Committee advises the Dean regarding budgetary matters and planning in the framework of the University's Planning and Budgeting System. The committee is comprised of the Dean and Associate Deans; three faculty members from the A&S Council; three faculty members representing the three divisions of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities; three staff members elected by division; and three graduate students elected by the Arts and Sciences Graduate Student Organization.

Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Council

The Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Council works with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies in reviewing proposals for new courses and new or revised instructional programs and majors. The A&S-UC serves as the council of initial jurisdiction regarding grading regulations, policy decisions and other undergraduate academic matters in the School of Arts and Sciences. Six elected faculty and five students appointed by the president of student government sit on this committee.

Arts and Sciences Graduate Council

The Arts and Sciences Graduate Council advises the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research on matters of concern for A&S graduate students such as placement opportunities, health insurance, time-to-degree and graduate student support. Policy concerns include approval of curriculum and instructional programs, admissions, degree requirements and other academic matters. Every year the committee reviews TA training, supervision and evaluation in two departments. Six faculty members and five graduate students sit on this committee.
