Arts and Sciences graduate students represent the next generation of the U.S. and international professoriate and, as such, make indelible contributions to the future of their respective disciplines.
According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Arts and Sciences is the largest Pittsburgh-area graduate school program, based on enrollment of 1,582 students. The school offers MA, MS, MFA, and PhD programs in 34 concentrations, plus interdisciplinary programs.
In 2005-06, nine graduates of the History and Philosophy of Science doctoral program accepted tenure-track positions as assistant professors at University of California, San Diego; Ohio University (two); Texas Tech; University of Montana; California State University, Northridge; University of Waterloo; University of Alberta; and University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Outstanding placements for our graduate students across the disciplines included postdoctoral fellowships, tenure-track positions, and nontenure stream positions at the following institutions of higher education.
