Partnerships

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks meaningful and sustainable ways to build bridges among disciplines and scholars. Our faculty lead inter- and cross-disciplinary research and scholarship in the school and across the University. From the 40-year-old-plus Learning Research and Development Center to the recently established Drug Discovery Institute, our cooperative efforts and innovations address interdisciplinary and global issues and provide students with unique internship, research, and graduate education opportunities.

Arts and Sciences faculty, staff, and students are engaged citizens through their contributions to communities in Allegheny County, the City of Pittsburgh, the region, and the nation. Our faculty lead the outreach programs of our science departments, the Film Studies Program, the College in High School program, the Urban Studies Program, the Women's Studies Program, and the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project. Contributions of our Music, Theatre Arts, Studio Arts, Africana Studies, and English departments enhance the cultural and artistic life of the region. In addition to participating in school-sponsored efforts, many Arts and Sciences faculty and staff volunteer with Immigrant Family Violence Prevention Council; Children Youth and Family Services; Phipps Conservatory and Botanic Gardens, Inc.; Carnegie Museum of Art; and the Women, Infants, and Children Nutritional Program of Allegheny County.
